On Thursday nights there is a street market of local venders selling their handicrafts. Knitted shoes for babies, handmade headbands and bows for young girls, wall hangings carved from wood, jewelry and many other things typical of the Northeast can be found lining the sidewalks of the Praça São João. I watched the “pipoqueiro” selling his popcorn and cotton candy. He was a very friendly fellow, and when I approached him to take his portrait, he was very receptive. Later in the evening as my family and I were walking to our car, we passed him again and he gave my daughter a free cotton candy, much to her delight.
