My family and I have spent the New Year in Fortaleza for a couple of days, then we went up the coast to Cumbuco. A small beach town just 5 blocks wide running between dunes and beautiful ocean. The beach has become quite a destination for foreigners, mostly european, drawn by the great winds, sunny days and proximity to an international airport. Kite surfing is a very popular sport here. Looking down the coastline you’ll easily spot 20 or more gliding across the water.
It was a lot of fun to watch them launch off of a big wave and fly 10 or 15 feet above the waves below then float down again.
