This last Saturday night I photographed a festa de quinze anos (15 year old birthday party). These parties are very big deals here in Brazil. They are most commonly held in buffets where there is ample space for tables and chairs for all the guests, a large area of sweet treats like beijinho’s and my favorite, brigadeiro. There is always a live band and DJ, and of course a large dance floor with all the lights. These celebrations are very elaborately decorated and often cost more than weddings. All said and done, some of these lavish parties can cost upwards of R$20,000 (thats just shy of 8900 Dollars at today’s exchange rate).
But in the end it is a night to be remembered, and shared over and over again on Facebook.
