It was a very interesting scene Tuesday when Germany beat Brazil 7 to 1 in the quarter finals of the 2014 World Cup. Many of the neighborhoods I visited to photograph were quite quiet in comparison to past games. As the goals stacked up (and the drinks flowed), the defeat and despair turned into laughter and cheers with each German goal scored. Outside the Afonso Grill, in the center of town, as the game finally ended the band was setting up. People started showing up with heavy hearts, but as soon as the music started, the grief and sadness were replaced with dancing and laughing.
